1

Set up and lower in

  • Fill baby tub with 2-3 inches of lukewarm water (~37°C / 98°F)
  • Test with your elbow — more sensitive than your hand
  • Gather washcloth, mild soap, towel, clean diaper, and clothes BEFORE baby touches water
  • Lower feet-first, support head and neck with your non-dominant arm

For unhealed umbilical stumps, sponge baths only — no submersion.

2

Wash and dry

  • Wash cleanest to dirtiest: face first, then body, diaper area last
  • Rinse by pouring clean water with a cup — not submerging
  • Lift out, wrap immediately in towel, pat dry (especially in skin folds)
  • Keep first baths short — 5 to 10 minutes max

Newborn skin dries out fast. Skip the soap on most days — water alone is fine.
