How your baby is growing this week
Ovulation is happening. One egg is released from the ovary and has about 12-24 hours to be fertilized. If conception occurs, a single cell — the zygote — forms with a complete set of 46 chromosomes. Gender, eye color, and hair color are already decided.
What your partner is going through
Ovulation may cause mild cramping or a slight temperature rise. Cervical mucus changes to an egg-white consistency — this is peak fertility. Progesterone starts rising to prepare the uterine lining for possible implantation.
What to focus on this week, dad
- 01If trying to conceive, this is the window — the 5 days before ovulation through 1 day after are peak fertility
- 02Start phasing out things that affect sperm quality: excessive alcohol, tobacco, hot tubs, and laptops on your lap
Connect with your partner
Don't turn intimacy into a science project. If you're tracking ovulation, keep it light. The goal is connection first, conception second. Nobody wants to feel like a specimen.
