How your baby is growing this week
Ovulation is happening. One egg is released from the ovary and has about 12-24 hours to be fertilized. If conception occurs, a single cell — the zygote — forms with a complete set of 46 chromosomes. Gender, eye color, and hair color are already decided.
What your partner is going through
Ovulation may cause mild cramping or a slight temperature rise. Cervical mucus changes to an egg-white consistency — this is peak fertility. Progesterone starts rising to prepare the uterine lining for possible implantation.
What to focus on this week, dad
- 01If you already have a positive test, this is the week it actually started — conception. Everything is counted forward from her last period, so your 'weeks' run about two ahead of conception. That gap is normal and it's how your OB dates everything.
- 02Nothing to do this week in hindsight. If you're still in the trying phase, the fertile window is the five days before ovulation through the day after — consistent timing beats obsessive tracking.
