How your baby is growing this week
Plum size — about 2.1 inches. Reflexes are switching on — fingers curl, toes flex, and the mouth makes sucking motions. The kidneys are producing urine, and the face looks unmistakably human now. The major structural work is nearly done; from here it's mostly growth.
What your partner is going through
Nausea and fatigue usually start lifting now as the placenta takes over hormone production — the worst stretch is ending. Energy and appetite creep back, and as the uterus rises out of the pelvis the constant need to pee eases. A first small bump may start to show.
What to focus on this week, dad
- 01Go with her to the nuchal translucency scan (weeks 11-13) — it measures fluid at the back of the baby's neck to screen for chromosomal conditions, and it's often the visit where you'll see the baby moving. If you did NIPT, results usually land around now too.
- 02Plan the wider announcement now that you're in the safe zone: line up the photo, draft the message, and agree on who hears it in person first. Tell your own parents before the internet does.
